Hands v Centaurs (the Vets) 23 November 2005
Lost 7-0

Man Down and Vets Cant Help

The Hands were once again on the wrong end of the scoreline yesterday.

Our game against the Centaurs was a physical and tough one that saw us once again create few chances. The Centaurs centres were keen to take contact, which was duly dealt with by our defensively faultless midfield. However their fullback was a strong runner and would bounce tackles, always making something for them. Had it not been for HRH Pools brilliant last ditch tackle and Ted Daniels super strength hold up over the line, we would have been behind early on.

Tragically as we began to surge up the pitch and take control of the game we were to lose our fine winger Henry Lloyd. Having turned down the opportunity to run a switch with Oli Pool, Lloyd was forced into contact and the rest is history. Serious ligament damage after twisting his knee saw the ambulance on the field and Lloyd off to the BRI. Sadly I fear it will be next season until we see him next. When I saw him last, to collect his shirt, he was surrounded by female attention, talking them through the incident under 3 or 4 duvets. We lost about 20 minutes due to all this and the ref saw it necessary to cut 10 minutes from the first half and 15 from the second due to the impending darkness.

The pack have been getting stuck in but we all appreciate we are far from working as a unit. All this results in slow ball and no real platform. Once again however we were forced into uncontested scrums, the vets turning up front rowless. This of course means we have no real momentum and changes the game completely - it does seem like a game of league but with rucks.

It stayed 0-0 until about 5 minutes until the end when an unfortunate mix up on the wing resulted in a run away intercept scored under the posts. At 7-0 down we were confident that with a bit of luck (which we lacked all afternoon) we could at least level things. Sadly though it was not to be, the whistle blew extremely early, and the Hands had lost.

Gutted, we left the pitch knowing we had probably under performed. However it was very much still daylight after our game and continued to be for at least an hour (hence the other games that kicked off their second halves as we made our way to the changing room. We play Goldney next Wednesday , and we need a win, a score of some sort wouldnt go a miss either! Early days yet though , heads up lads!

Final Score: Centaurs 7 Hands 0
